The Turnaround’s new self‑titled EP is a warm, globe‑trotting collection of six songs built around Daniel de Boer’s intimate bass and vocals. From Texel to Berlin, each track spotlights musicians from across the world, and their different roots seep into the arrangements without ever feeling forced.
Opening cut “Keep You Close” pairs a gentle bassline with lush viola and trombone flourishes, while “No Longer Belong Here” brings in punchy drums and saxophone for a bittersweet pop swing. On “Going Down,” piano and violin weave around Daniel’s voice, drawing you into the story without artifice. The title track grooves on supple guitar lines and crisp drums, teasing electronic touches under the surface.
“The Way” is a standout moment: Indian guitarist Varun Raj layers subtle sitar‑like licks under a prog‑inspired solo, marrying East and West in a single song. And on “Beside Me,” Marcelo Woloski’s percussion drives a warm, late‑night feel—soon to be brought to life in Luca Bordonaro’s upcoming video.
Produced between Berlin and Texel by Shakthi Prasad and Daniel de Boer, The Turnaround is proof that musical borders are guidelines, not walls. It’s an acoustic pop record that wears its influences proudly and genuinely.
