Review: “Frameworks” by vostoksounds

“Frameworks” is a collection of four tracks that shows a clear mix of different influences, and it’s refreshing to hear how they all come together. The composer, producer, and guitarist behind this release brought in a few key collaborators to help shape the sound, including bass players Alex Burak and Matt Copson, who both bring their own style to the project. Burak’s upright bass adds a rich layer to Framework #1, while Copson’s bass guitar on Framework #3 brings a funky, rock edge that gives the track some punch.

The music itself doesn’t stick to one style. Framework #1 is very minimal, almost like a quiet, reflective moment, with subtle, ambient touches that create space. Then, things start to build with the second track, where you can feel the influence of Pink Floyd—long, drawn-out chords mixed with slow-building synths. By the time you hit Framework #4, the vibe takes a turn into darker, trip-hop territory, with guitars and electronics blending in a way that feels fresh and unexpected.

The release was recorded mostly at home, with the producer using a lot of techniques learned during his time as a sound engineer. It’s clear that a lot of care went into the details, even with the stripped-back production. The linking motif—a descending minor triad—ties everything together, but it’s subtle. If you’re into ambient, progressive rock, or just appreciate thoughtful instrumental work, “Frameworks” is worth checking out.
