Frank Renfordt has built The Cumberland River Project around steady songwriting and collaboration. A native of Hagen, Germany, he began writing songs as a kid and later found his way back to music after raising a family and spending time working outside the industry. His interest in American roots music grew through trips to the U.S., where he connected with Nashville musicians and developed a taste for country and Americana songwriting. Under The Cumberland River Project name, he’s released two albums, an EP, and several singles, gaining recognition from songwriting contests in both the U.K. and the U.S.
His new single “Turquoise Blue” moves at an easy pace. The mix is warm: acoustic guitar and piano sit close together while Valen’s voice gives the song its shape. She sings with a steady, natural tone that carries the track. Josue Garcia’s trumpet adds quiet color around her, and Lucio Cheli’s drums move lightly underneath. Renfordt plays the rest—guitar, bass, piano, and programmed drums—with a clear sense of space.
The song carries a nostalgic tone, closer to reflection than longing. “Turquoise Blue” sounds like it belongs to a small, private world, where every instrument serves the same simple purpose: to hold on to a feeling.
