Dax Reemerges With “Man I Used to Be,” a Calm Reset After the Silence

After holding back on releasing any new music for the first half of 2025, Dax returns with Man I Used to Be — a track written and recorded after reaching six months sober. The decision to delay new work until that milestone came from Dax himself: a self-imposed challenge to see what would come out of a completely clear head. The result is a reflective single co-produced with Jimmy Robbins in Nashville.

The mood is clean, smooth, and low-pressure, built around a soothing instrumental that moves between soul, pop, and light country without leaning too far in any direction. Dax’s vocal performance stays measured, keeping the focus on the feeling more than technical delivery. It’s less about a show and more about documenting a headspace: something that would work well in sync, especially in TV or film scenes that lean sentimental without getting too dramatic.

The lyrics are direct, with no overthinking. The production keeps things steady: simple beat, clean mix, leaving space for the words to land without distraction. It’s the sound of someone stepping back in after a pause, seeing where they stand.

He’s got a headline tour coming in October called the Lonely Dirt Road Tour, and Man I Used to Be is the first step into whatever that phase sounds like.
