Composer and producer Pablo Langaine has released Nostalgia, a five-track EP that shows just how hard he is to categorize. Known for his work on projects like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as TV shows including The Montaners and The Cleaning Lady, Langaine brings the same level of cinematic intensity and emotional range to this new music.
The Nostalgia EP stands apart for how stripped and intimate it feels without losing ambition. It’s minimal in places, but the atmosphere is full and textured. Langaine doesn’t lean into obvious genre markers; the music moves freely between ambient, classical, and something almost dreamlike.
The opener, ALUCINACIONES, is difficult to pin down. It has a hypnotic, trance-like pull, with layered vocals and a style that doesn’t follow conventional structure. It feels like a film cue for a psychological scene that never resolves, more mood than melody.
ANOTHER CHANCE carries a melancholy tone that might easily work in an arthouse drama or a moment of reflection in a narrative-driven video game. The emotional pacing is slow, but there’s a sense of purpose in how it moves.
ENERO 5 feels very pure in tone. There’s a simplicity to it that makes the track feel exposed, as if nothing is hiding behind effects or layers. That clarity makes it feel real and grounded.
The title track, NOSTALGIA, could easily play over the credits of a suspense film or something introspective. The intro especially brings to mind the eerie stillness of early Silent Hill soundtracks — not in genre, but in emotional ambiguity.
Y AL FINAL closes the EP on a cinematic note. The strings in the background feel quietly expressive, not showy, giving the piece a reflective finish. It wraps the project with a sense of closure that still leaves space for interpretation.
Nostalgia is out now on Langaine’s label Muse Tones. It’s a strong example of how music doesn’t have to be loud or complex to be effective. It also proves that Langaine’s ability to score for screen translates just as well to stand-alone releases.
