John Powell and Jónsi have been recognized with an Annie Award for their exceptional work on the music for How to Train Your Dragon 2. Their collaboration earned them the award for Outstanding Achievement in Music in an Animated Feature Production. The award was presented during the ceremony held at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, with producer Bonnie Arnold accepting on behalf of Powell and Jónsi.
The competition in their category was strong, with notable contenders including Danny Elfman for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Nicole Renald for Cheatin’, Bruno Coulais & Kila for Song of the Sea, and Joe Hisaishi for The Tale of Princess Kaguya. This win adds to Powell’s impressive track record, having previously won four Annie Awards for his work on the original How to Train Your Dragon film, as well as Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, and the short Kung Fu Panda: Secret of the Furious Five.
